Used routinely in human medicine, endoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that allows direct visualization of internal organs including, but not limited to, the gastrointestinal tract (esophagus, stomach and intestines) and respiratory system (nasal passage, trachea and bronchi).
A high definition camera attached to a long, thin tube is inserted into the patient’s body which allows for detailed examination and the ability to obtain tissue samples (biopsies) as needed.
Endoscopy aids in the diagnosis of many diseases that historically have required full abdominal surgery. Recovery time following an endoscopic procedure is typically less than 12-24 hours, whereas abdominal surgery requires a minimum of 10-14 days for recovery.
We are pleased to offer this cutting edge technology to our patients as it allows our team to continue providing the best care.
